CorsixTH

CorsixTH is an open-source remake of Bullfrog's 1997 video game "Theme Hospital" which was designed to be a playable version of the game which could play on modern computers. CorsixTH improves the game with features such as higher screen resolutions and a level editor. The game requires the player to have a full copy of the original game which provides the graphics and sounds for CorsixTH.

Official Description[]

"CorsixTH aims to re-implement the game engine of Theme Hospital, and be able to load the original game data files. After most of the original engine has been re-implemented in open source code, the project will serve as a base from which extensions and improvements to the original game can be made."

History[]

It is coded in C++ and Lua, with a stronger focus on Lua than OpenTH and is licensed under the MIT License. Launched on 24 July 2009, the project named CorsixTH is another open source attempt to make a modern clone of Theme Hospital.

The first official release was Playable Beta 1 on December 24, 2009 and the current stable version, 0.66, was released on June 26, 2021. As of July 27, 2022, work on their next release has begun. It is necessary to have a copy of the original game as a CD or mounted disk image in order to use CorsixTH as the original files are used by the engine. It is also possible to play the game with the original demo files, whilst these offer limited functionality only (i.e. no research).
